Prospero and Miranda survived and found refuge on a small island. Prospero learned sorcery from books and used his magic to protect Miranda and control the other characters on the island. He freed the magical spirit Ariel from a cloven pine and took Ariel as his slave. Prospero's sorcery was so powerful that he could control the weather and even raise the dead.
